Our school's theme for this year is ‘Be warm-hearted to everyone, speaking to others in a gentle and respectful way.’ Although youth suicide has become a growing concern in recent years, it may feel somewhat distant to many of our students.
Thus, the aim this event was to help students gain a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of suicide, enhancing their ability to support others and encouraging contemplation on the significance of life.
The Symphony Orchestra captured the Gold Award in the 2023 Symphony Orchestra Interflow. The orchestra performed the dramatic Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture (Excerpts) by Tchaikovsky.
The members of the orchestra would like to express gratitude to Mr. Kelvin Ngai (the conductor), Br. Thomas, Mr. Steve Leung, Mr. Alfred Lam, Ms. Lavinia Wong, old boys and the parents for their continual support and guidance.
Father Ray Kelly, a renowned Irish priest who was made famous back in 2014 after a video of him singing a beautiful rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ while officiating at a couple’s wedding went viral, visited the College today.
Fr. Kelly was warmly greeted by our Supervisor, Brother Thomas, along with Brother Patrick and Brother David. He then met the Catholic Society Choir and Senior Choir at the School Chapel, which was filled with anticipation as the choirs had prepared to showcase their harmonious talents by presenting three songs, one of which being ‘Anima Christi’ in Latin.
Fr. Kelly shared his personal story with us and then, with his silky voice, sang ‘Hallelujah’, which has already amassed more than 90 million hits on YouTube. In 2018 he participated in the British talent show "Britain’s Got Talent" and sang for us his touching entry ‘Everybody hurts’ which transported us to a realm of spiritual bliss. In anticipation of Christmas he invited us to join him in the singing of the carol ‘Silent Night’. The interflow did not stop there as the choirs sang for him our much loved Hong Kong song ‘Under the Lion Rock’ (獅子山下) composed by our Old Boy lyricist James Wong Jim (黃霑). The visit of Fr. Kelly concluded with a presentation of school souvenirs and the high-spirited singing of our School Song.
We are grateful for Fr. Kelly’s esteemed presence, which serves as a reminder of the transformative power of music, the beauty of shared experience and the profound impact one person can have on the world through their unique gifts and talents.
Our school's String Orchestra performed String Quartet No.1 in G Minor, 1st Movement by Edvard Grieg at the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflow for the String Orchestra and captured the Gold Award.
The hearts and souls of our young musicians have been poured into countless hours of practice and rehearsals, perfecting their harmonies and melodies. Their commitment and teamwork have brought forth a performance that captivated the judges and left a lasting impression.
The members would like to express their gratitude to Mr. John Sit (conductor) and Ms. Jennes Chan (teacher advisor) for their guidance and support.
We are thrilled with the overwhelming response and active participation in the Form One Information Day. The event's success would not have been possible without the enthusiasm and support of the nearly 800 parents and 250 primary students who attended.
During the informative sharing session, a diverse range of valuable information was provided to the parents, including insights into life at La Salle and helpful tips for applying for the Form One discretionary places.
Additionally, participating students had the opportunity to embark on an engaging school tour, further immersing themselves in the vibrant atmosphere of our college.
The Annual Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony was successfully held on 17th November, 2023. It was our great pleasure with the esteemed presence of Mr. Tong Wun Sing, our former Principal, as our Guest of Honour.
