Footsteps of the Brave: A Journey through Heritage and Sacrifice
The History and Heritage Society joined with the Old Boys’ Association and embarked on a profound journey through Hong Kong’s wartime past. This collaborative field trip retraced the defensive lines of the Battle of Hong Kong, visiting key historical sites including Sai Wan Fort, the Sai Wan War Cemetery, Stanley Military Cemetery, and the Wong Nai Chung Gap.
Throughout the tour, alumni shared moving stories of the “boys of courage” who once walked around the school corridors and sat in classrooms for lessons before answering the call to serve. These personal narratives encouraged students to look beyond mere historical facts and rethink the true meaning of war and peace. By standing amidst the silence and placing flowers upon the headstones, students paid their respects to those who sacrificed their lives, transforming a history lesson into a heartfelt act of gratitude.
The experience “touched the hearts” of our students, fostering a deep sense of belonging and a profound pride in their school’s legacy. By reflecting on the sacrifice of their predecessors, the day served as a powerful moment of collective remembrance, ensuring the values of the past continue to inspire the leaders of the future.
