We are delighted to announce the outstanding performance of the STEAM team in the Hong Kong Blockchain Olympiad 2023. Four members of the team, namely Cheung Chun Lok (5G), Shang Chengze (5G), Lam Lap Yu (4G), and He Jeremy Guan-Tian (5G), have demonstrated incredible competency in formulating innovative solutions with Blockchain technology in their project, "BlockBuster: A Blockchain-Based Public Self-Driving Car Rental Service." They have captured the Bronze award as the 2nd runner-up team in the final round.
Another student from the STEAM team, Lu Runbo (5G), has also performed well in the competition and was part of one of the teams among the top 10 best performing teams.
The competition invited students to propose solutions to real-world problems using blockchain technology. The secondary track consisted of three submission stages and multiple workshops spanning from July to September, where students had to formulate and present their Blockchain solutions in various formats, including a written proposal, a video, and a poster board.
The best performing teams have been invited to participate in the GBA-IBCOL Finals, as well as the International Blockchain Olympiad, held later this year. We are proud to announce that both teams will be advancing into the GBA-IBCOL Finals.
Congratulations to the students for their incredible achievement, and we wish them good luck in the next stages of the competition.
Gather up, Lasallians! We are all refreshed and ready to begin the new school year at the School Opening Assembly.
The professional development session was a collaborative effort, bringing together teachers from La Salle College, La Salle Primary School, and educators from our Lasallian Brother schools. This inclusive session aimed to foster a shared learning experience and promote collaboration among Lasallian educators. By uniting teachers from different educational levels and institutions, the session offered a unique opportunity to explore the potential of generative AI in diverse educational contexts. Through the keynote speeches and insightful discussion, the teachers gained valuable insights into the new technology and its implications for teaching and learning. Equipped with this knowledge, the participants are now poised to lead the way in integrating generative AI into their classrooms, enriching the educational experience for all Lasallian students.
The Computer Team is pleased to announce that its members have achieved great results in recent coding competitions - Hong Kong Secondary School Coding Challenge. In the competition, participants compete with other secondary school students in utilising coding, analytical and problem-solving skills to implement solutions for various problems. The list of awardees is as follows:
2nd runner-up - Lai Hong Tung Honrich 3C
Gold Medal - Kwong Yat Him 4G
Silver Medal - Cheung Chun Lok 4G
La Salle College Students Win International Trade Challenge 2023 – Hong Kong Finals
The BAFS Team is delighted to announce that Kai Pak Kin Kenneth (6F), Lau Kin Fung Leroy (6E), Lu Runbo (4G), Kwong Alexander (4E) have achieved magnificent results in the 2023 FedEx Express - International Trade Challenge. Among the 350 contestants, the two La Salle teams have been selected as the top two teams in the Hong Kong Finals. With their innovative business models, they have been elected as Hong Kong Delegates in the Asia Pacific Finals which was held in August.
Organized by FedEx Express, the competition aims to nurture young people to become tomorrow’s leaders in the international marketplace by challenging student entrepreneurs to minimize single-use products and create a market entry strategy for sustainable alternatives in South Africa. After submitting the market entry strategy, 10 teams out of 175 teams have been shortlisted to do a 7-minute presentation and complete a 2-minute Q&A session in the Hong Kong Finals.
Team “Incandescent” formed by Kai Pak Kin Kenneth (6F) and Lau Kin Fung Leroy (6E) came up with a sustainable solution named the Mine&Craft package. Targeting the mining and construction industry in South Africa, the team initiated to produce a reusable mining clothes package incorporating Internet of Things technology to minimize single used personal protective equipment and reduce the spiking fatality rate simultaneously. Their ideas run on a Reusable-as-a-service cycle to create a perpetuating demand for services hence sustainable income generation.
Team “the Power Partners” formed by Lu Runbo (4G) and Kwong Alexander (4E) spotted opportunities in the food packaging industry of South Africa. They designed a set of sustainable bioplastic packaging that adopt ring-opening polymerisation technologies in the production process with wasted corn stover which is greatly abundant in South Africa. Their design not only alleviates plastic problems in South Africa but also makes good use of local unused materials to create values.
Congratulations to the two teams for their achievements. The students would like to express their sincere gratitude to Ms. Helen Law for her guidance and steadfast support throughout the competition.
The Drama Team's Spectacular Performance of “Passengers on the Wind”
The Drama Team delivered their first Cantonese musical theatre performance, 候鳥之家 Passengers on the Wind, at the Black Box Theatre in Kwai Tsing Theatre on August 19th and 20th.
Through the culmination of practice and rehearsals, the performance was a celebration of our boys’ talent and devotion.
We thank all members of the audience for joining us at the theatre, as well as everyone who offered support and assistance to make this production possible. Once again, congratulations to the Drama Team boys for their impressive performance!
Our students who took part in the LEGO SPIKE Prime Robotics Course over the summer have experienced the exciting world of robotics and programming. With the intuitive graphical coding interface provided by the LEGO SPIKE Prime platform, they learned the basic programming flow.
Participants also delved into the fundamentals of motor control and learned how to connect and control motors to create robots which can perform specific tasks and movements, such as Shooter Robots. The course followed a task-based approach, which equipped the students with basic problem-solving and integrated skills for LEGO competitions.
Our school’s Dance Team participated in the dance event “KIND (Kids InterNational Dance) 国際交流キッズダンスイベント” in Kumamoto, Japan. We were greatly honored to be the only dance team representing Hong Kong, showcasing our dance “We Are” outside the city for the very first time. The 11 boys were even interviewed on the spot after their performance and got mentioned in a local newspaper the next day.
Warmly welcomed by the hospitable Japanese, the boys continued their once-in-a-life journey in a parade where they grooved to the beat together with over 5000 locals to celebrate the Hinokuni Festival (火の国祭り). The team also visited Mount Aso, explored Kumamoto Castle and made Japanese traditional sweets under the guidance of a Wagashi store owner. This dance tour was a truly special experience that we will always cherish.
